Replacing Yokozuna shifter cables. Do I need to lube the housings?
I have never replaced cables. I've seen varying responses for different types of cables as to whether or not you're supposed to lube them on installation but nothing specific to Yokozuna.
Any advice here?

Lubing can't hurt them so I would.

Just lightly lube grease the cables put some lube on the cables and then whipe most of it off. Lubing cables doesn't hurt anything and it can make installing and adjusting a lot easier.

i guess the other question I have is should i clean the housings themselves before I put in new cables? And if so.... how?

There really isn't any way to clean the insides of cable housing either they are fairly good or better, not so good and need to be replaced. More than likely yours are just fine stop worrying and just stick the cable through them.

Before now, I've just used the thin red plastic straw that comes on a can of WD40 to blast the liner out from one end to clean & degrease it, and then a bit later used a can of thin spray grease the same way to lube it - you can see it firing out of the other end.
