Road stripe paint removal, carbon frame...

I know, it's a strange question. I have road stripe paint on a 2011 Specialized gloss black carbon frame. It's been dried on. Not sure if it's ever coming off. I've read of official techniques (from the State of Maine) to remove from cars (pressure wash, WD-40 and even Vaseline left on). But I'm afraid of damaging the bike of course. Any experiences would be appreciated.

I doubt it. I've had it on an aluminum frame. It was fairly gloppy so it just popped off.

True and I wasn't thinking, he should have a clear coat over the CF itself, giving him some tolerances on accidentally scraping too low.

If your not comfortable with the putty knife take a look through the thread I linked, someone had a similar desire to remove paint from CF and options were explored.

Plastic razor plate and some type of lubricant. I would start with rubbing alcohol and work your way up to a citrus stripper, followed by goof off, in order of aggressiveness

I scrape what I can off with a credit card (hopefully, but not always expired), then have had success with residue using mineral oil and elbow grease.

being a body man/ painter i would use some enamel reducer/ fingernail polish remover and a plastic razor blade to scraped at the drops.
the clear coat is catalyzed so it shouldn't hurt the factory finish. don't scrape to hard, especially over the decals, because the clear coat isn't very thick.

I would try mineral spirits (paint remover) first. If that doesn't work try lacquer thinner or acetone, but either of these might react with the clear coat, so proceed with caution. Finger nail polish remover is overpriced lacquer thinner.

fingernails are pretty close to the consistency of a plastic credit card and/or guitar picks. i'd try that first, since you probably have about ten of them with you at all times.
