Can a stripped out BB housing be rethreaded?
Can a stripped out BB housing be rethreaded? I was thinking a tap and die set or should I bring it to a machine shop to have this done? Can this even be done? Help.
This is on a all Steal Spinning bike. The first 1/2" of the housing is stripped,
BB size 68mm-107mm.
Manufacture of BB Modus bci1.37-24t.
Manufacture of spin bike Star trac.
Any help would be appreciated.

Mavic also made a BB that had no threads...not sure if it is still availabe. The BB shell had to be champhered to a 45 deg angle. The bottom bracket had a lockring on each side that squished it together so it would not move.

"Mavic also made a BB that had no threads"
Yst makes one as well, about twenty bucks thru biketoolsetc.com. No chambering required.

you need to go to a bike shop that has a Bottom Bracket "chasing" tool, big honking tap is all it is... I have to say that if 1/2 the threads are gone, I'd go with a BB that doesn't require threads... I can't remember who makes them, but it's kinda like a problem solver thing... you've got a pretty standard BB sounds like so you should be able to find/order one from a Bike shop.. then you don't even have to worry about the threads any longer. I would just be worried if you did tap the threads, there would so little of them left that you'd probably just blow them out after a couple of spining class's... try and find that BB I mentioned, that's probably the best solution... good luck

Thanks guys,
I'm going to look at some threadless BB. This seems to be the right direction to go. I'll update you of the out come.
I HATE SPINNING BIKES!

I could not find one with a 107mm.
Can I use a 110mm spindle length on a 107mm?

Can you, yes. SHould you, probably not. Especially on a Spinning bike. Just curious how you buggered up the threads to begin with. I maintain a fleet of 19 bikes, and I have never had any problems with the bb shells.

Didn't mean to offend. Just curious. Sounds like someone did a swap at some point and cross threaded the bb when they reinstalled it. As for your question Sydney- I wouldn't do anything to mess with the chainline of a Spinner or any other group cycling bike. The chain runs inside a closed guard, and replacing the crank and cog are a pain in the butt, so you don't want to do anything to shorten the lifespan.

I didn't mean to come on to you like that sorry.
I'm a bit pissed the guy who was riding it, said he felt the crank rocking when he got on it. Then he decides to use it anyway.

Your right about the chainline the plastic chain guard has good size gouge in it from the chain.
