8spd DA STI's--changing der. cable?

How do you fish out and replace the der. cable on an old 8speed STI shifter? Brake cable--no problem. But I can't seem to figure out the der. cable......what am I missing? Thanks in advance...

yeah, you've gotta have the small lever clicked all the way out.

When I was younger, I temporarily wrecked an STI by putting the cable in without the lever being "clicked out"...d'oh!!
