Carbon Fiber Frame Repair

Don't know if this is the best forum for this or road, but I'm starting here. My son was riding my wife's TCR Comp 1 and let his lock slip between the wheel and the seat tube. Crushed the carbon on the tube pretty good. Before I go for the part out I would like to get some estimates on frame repair. A quick Google search turns up quite a few companies doing carbon repair but most are in CA and none nearer than Austin.

Does anyone know of a company doing carbon fiber frame repairs on the East Coast - ideally in the DC area?

Thanks,

Mike

Other Coast .. Craig Calfee in San Francisco, https://calfeedesign.com/ USPS will get it there both ways..

Though I dont know about whether some of the Yacht Builders & Outfitters ,
and companies like Clear Carbon in RI would take it on.

Go where CF Racing Yachts are made .. you won't like the price ,
they are used to doing business where cost does not matter, winning does.

Competence is more important than location. Craig Calfee's company is one of the best at carbon repair and, as fietsbob noted, UPS or Fed Ex will get it there and back.

There is a shop in Florida that does good work, from what I have seen. The Frame Doctor, Sanford, Florida.

I wouldn't trust anyone other than Calfee or somebody similar. Bike tubes are very thin and need done right by experienced people. There's nobody in the DC area I would trust.

As far as other businesses, don't do it. A boat or auto repair is something totally different.

I sent my CF repair to Anderson Custom Bicycles in Minneapolis and he did a fantastic job. But alas his web site now says he's too busy to take in CF repair jobs.

I agree with not going to a boat repairer, but the idea that only Calfee can do a competent repair is unfair.

MikeM21, look into Cycle Classics in Portsmouth, VA. It would be a three-ish hour trip for you and will probably take 2-4 weeks, but I absolutely trashed the chainstay on my Madone when a watter bottle left its holder and wedged between the chainstay and chain. A few weeks and $300 later and there's no way you could tell it ever happened. They even did a flawless paint match and put on a new clear chainstay guard. Gordon Freeman is the owner and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him. I have seen basket cases that he's put back to new condition.

I can't help with a reccomendation for your repair, but if you ever get a chance to meet Graig Calfee, don't pas it up. He's a really nice guy, and loves to talk to people.
