nexus gear cable housing?
i'm very slowly collecting up the parts to put a nexus 8sp on one of my stretch cruisers. i got the twist shifter yesterday and notice the cable housing is pretty stiff, kinda like a positron housing. the inner cable is more flexable though, like a normal gear cable.
whenever i install it, it will need to be longer. i was also wanting a different color housing. will i need to use this housing, or one like it? thanks.

The Nexus 8 uses SIS-SP40 housing. You can use anyting designed to be a replacement for SIS-SP40 or the newer SIS-SP41

thanks to you both. my igh experince is very limited, just some minor adjustments on a few 3 speeds, so i don't know how much i can get away with.
reynolds, do you have a very long cable run? that is my main concern. it is a bike like this
so there is a lot of room for slack. truthfully, the other couple bikes i have like this have jockey shifters near the back wheel (derailleur setup though) to get around that. i wanted this project to be more guest rider friendly. nothing like sticking a hand into a moving wheel to take the fun out of a ride.
i'm also considering just running housing down to the big tube on the bottom, letting the gear cable run exposed through the tube, then a short piece back to the wheel. think that would let me get away with it? thanks.

You want to keep the housing fastened to the frame (zip ties) at several points so it doesn't move, except for a short section at the front to allow steering. I'd not use short housing sections with exposed cable, full length housing is recommended to keep possible play/loose points at a minimum.
