ok, after seraching the forum, and asking questions here and there, I am about to order some chains. I am a heavy rider (250lbs) and i prematurely destroyed my 60 dollar cassette last time because i waited to long to replace my chain (1,300 miles) I figure because chains are pretty cheap, until I loose considerably more weight, i will just replace my chain every 800 - 900 miles.

Now, based on everyones suggestions, i figure i will get the SRAM PC-59 9 Speed for my mountain bike...

For my road bike (giant tcr2 full ultegra) would i be better off spending 19.99 on the SRAM PC-69 9 Speed..

Please explain why you would choose one over the other. It is very important that i have a good, solid understanding here, because to try and save on shipping, i plan to make a bulk order, and buy 3 chains for each bike!!! (total of 6 chains)

Perhaps the most important question... since i plan to replace them so often, does it even matter what SRAM I get????

Well i generally get the PC69 for everything, its not terribly expensive but i buy them everytime i need a chain, i believe they have the nickel plate to help against corrosion, which in my area is a blessing. But your probably fine with the 59. Dont bother withthe 99 and that hollow pin crap, its ridiculous.

ok, cool. thank you for the quick responce. I just saw that nashbar has even cheaper prices... the pc-69 is ony 14.99! I also just called cust service for both performance and nashbar... the shipping is considerably cheaper through nashbar when buying in bulk! pricpoint still charges shipping per item!

Yea i payed 14.99 for my PC69 on nashbar, thats one of the best cycling related deals out there. THe chains cheap, resists rust and all very well and comes with powerlink.

I use nothing but PC68 chains on my 8s Campy, along with a respaced SRAM cassette on a Shimano compatible hub (Spinergy Xaero-X wheels). Having one standard will save you many headaches. What cassette are you using that costs $60??? I think I paid $27 for my SRAM road cassette.

Get the cheaper chains, they tend to be tougher. When you spend the $$ you get lighter.

Its just not worth paying a lot for cassette/cogs since they wear so much. Spend the extra on your wheels
