creaking noise while pedaling

I just started noticing some creaking when I pedal.
I definitely only notice it when I pedal, but i can't tell if it's from the cranks or BB.
I thought that I was able to identify that it happened consistently when my left foot is pushing through the forward position (9 o'clock if you are viewing from the non-drive side).
However, trying out some other things, I think it might be from my seat.
I say this b/c when I stand up and ride, I don't hear it. But i don't know if that's b/c i'm farther away, or if it is actually the seat.

Two questions.
1. Are there other things that you think might be the problem?
2. If it is the seat, what would I try to do to fix it (like tacx carbon assembly compound)?

I don't really notice that the seat has changed position.

Speaking from experience (and my experience is no different from anybody else's) it may be the bottom bracket. Or it may be the seatpost, saddle, pedals or any number of things. I'd check the seatpost and saddle first. Carbon paste on my carbon seatpost in a carbon frame cured one of my creaking noises. I also had a creak in the bottom bracket recently. Mine is a BB30 - I simply removed the cranks, cleaned the bearings and seals, lubed and re-installed the cranks. No more creaking.

So in a nutshell, start with the easiest suspects first. And the creak may sound like it's coming from the BB but it may well be coming from somewhere else.

Cheers!
