Shimano Deore Shift Indicator Cover Options

Hello,
I have a 2012 Trek Fuel EX6 and I'd like to play with the brake and shifter positions a little. I want to move the brake mounting inboard of the shifter and in order to get the spacing I want, I need to remove the shift indicators. The Deore model does not come with the included covers to enclose the shifter with the indicators removed. (Oddly, it has the holder for them, just no covers there.)

Are these covers available somewhere? Will something else work? What are the options?

I'm not ready to upgade the shifters, they are less than a year old and I'm very happy with their operation.

Thanks for any help,
Dan

Over 60 views so far, but no responses. I guess there isn't a good answer or I didn't ask the right question. Anyway, I went ahead and ordered some XTR shifters which will give me a lot more options on my setup. I'll try to go by my LBS and see if there is a better answer and post here for reference sake if there is.
Thanks for reading,
Dan

Pictures mean a ton when it comes to odd questions like this. Its hard to picture what you are saying since we don't know what your current shifters look like.

OK.

Shimano Deore shifters that I have look like this: https://www.shimano.com/publish/conte..._mountain.html

When the shift indicator (the hood looking piece with the red indicator) is removed it leaves an opening in the top of the shifter. On higher models like XT, there is a cover for this opening included with the shifter and is found in the hood itself.

In the Deore model M-591 that I have, there is a spot for the cover, but no cover. I'm wondering if anyone knows if there are options that folks know of to get a cover or if there are other options to buying an upgraded shifter just to get rid of the shift indicator. If anyone has tried to swap the position of the brake and shifter on the handle bar, you would have run into this issue.

Thanks,
Dan

The M591 shares the basic design and some parts with higher models but the M591 only comes with the indicator so there is no spare part number for a cover. You can get covers for the M660 but there is no guaranty it will work.

I can't help you with the cover but now i understand exactly what you mean. Your Deore class shifters have the same indicator and spot for the cover inside the indicator cover but the plain cover is missing so you want to know if its possible to source the plain covers or find someone who has a pair of covers that they aren't going to use.

Maybe someone here does have a set of covers that they aren't going to use. I never even knew that Shimano made replaceable covers like that.
