Tires/Tubes, Which and Where?

I have a bunch of vintage bikes that need tires/tubes. How do I know which tires for which bike? To name a few, I am looking to purchase rubber for '41 Rollfast, Various 60's schwinns, Dawes and Puegot road bikes, and a few tandems.

Can someone point me a in the right direction for a reference on what to look for when purchasing new rubber? I don't even know where to start on tires for the pre-war rollfast. Thanks!

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

The first place to start is with the dried out tires still on the bikes. The standard sizing designations haven't changed, so if the Rollfast's tire says 26x1.75, that's what you replace it with. Schwinn tires are often made to their slightly different standard so they probably take fractional sizes which also have a reference such as S-5 or S-6. Note that in the tire world 1.75 does not equal 1-3/4, though mathematically equal, these sizes reference different mounting standards.

If the tires aren't there, you can measure the rim, but this is difficult on many vintage rims because the seat dimension is hard to identify, and the tires don't sit on true seats, but engage a bump (hook) on the inside of the rim.

Here's a link to a list of tire sizes with matching rim bead diameters that may help.

You might also want to post on the classic and vintage forum, where you'll find fellow collectors who might know tire sizes by make and model.

Hi,

https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/tyres-dept206_pg1/
