Which Kool Stop Pads?

Need some advice...

I have purchased a set of Velo Orange Grand Cru cantilevers for my Raleigh Port Townsend that I am rebuilding. I want to use Kook Stop brake pads...which version should I use for these brakes? Any advice would be appreciated!

As a general rule I like the "Salmon" (pink) pads for general use. They work well in dry conditions and are the best compound for wet conditions. The black pads may last a bit longer in only dry usage but the Salmon pads last so long it's not a big issue.

KS resolves the dilemma, by mixing compounds, Salmon wet, and general use Black, in the same pad half&half ..

And like most hybrids, they don't do either job as well as a dedicated design.

I'm running the Kool Stop Cross pads on my commuter and am pleased with the performance.

design is the same , just mold machine injects one half of each..

Did You have a personal test using that specific product?

FWIW, there is also a triple compound offered as well ..

I note: Oregon coast Pittsburgh, and Georgia have different weather .. so that may matter too..

YMMV ..

Yeah, I know what they are and how they are made and, yes, I've used them. However, they didn't work any better or last any longer than the straight Salmons.

Hi,

Use good pads on the front.
Use good value pads on the rear.

If the brakes come with pads, use them on
the rear and keep the fronts as rear spares.

rgds, sreten.

I've used both all salmon and black+salmon on the same bike and conditions. Like HillRider, no difference in life, and the all-salmons always work better where it really matters in the wet, and they are noticeably better than stock black pads everywhere.

Any how have a order for salmon Dura 2. to replace the Original TRP myself ..

the Toe adjust in place ones ..

Did a Kludge to fit the KS continentals in the CLB brakes on my 1st Brompton..

they use a Fibrax shoe, now, maybe the same Dura 2 insert in those also..
