Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

Postage from US to OZ is relatively cheap and very reliable, with transit time being as short as 1 week, though 2 weeks is more typical.

Biggest problem with Jersey stems is, no body seems to be making them. We got the folks up in Newark, but they're a fledgling firm and some of the fillet-brazed frames I saw online looked pretty suspect. No stems listed on their site. I know of some truly shade-tree, garage-built BMX firms in NJ, but they don't make anything remotely like what Kimmo wants. Being about 6 miles from Center City, Phila, I'm more familiar with those frame-builders. Engin and Bilenky probably wouldn't make you a stem a la carte, and they certainly wouldn't make you one this month. Engin will sell you a stem with a custom frame; prices start at $300. So, the next biggest problem with Jersey-area stems is: they cost too much.

The problem with NOS stems, in this case, is that "Old" stock won't accept a 31.8mm handlebar. I bet YJ has (comparatively) plenty of 1" threadless stems, but they'd be for 25.4 or 26.0mm bars...

Sorry, you missed my point which had nothing to do with stems. It was a bit of an insider NY/NJ joke.

Oh. I suppose that makes sense. I'm from the "other" Jersey; where we believe that "wooder" comes out of the faucet. Where we use "q-pons" to buy things at the "Acker-me". Where we think today is called "Tues-dee". Phila is our capitol, and many of us avoid NYC and anything north of Trenton at all costs. So, I'm outside of any sort of insider jokes between NYC and NNJ, although I do believe that NYC is the capitol of North Jersey.

Hey wow, this thread took on a life of its own while I wasn't looking... : )

FB nailed it; this bike is my hot rod.

Ideally I'd prefer something in forged aluminium with a 4-bolt cap and a hidden steerer clamp, but that'd be like winning the lotto.

Far out! Thanks, that's super cheap, and definitely an option.

I'm encouraged enough to wonder whether I could find someone who does that with aluminium...

One thing on my side, I'm not in any hurry.
