My Single Speed Truativ Bottom Bracket Cartridge disassembled itself

I heard a tiny clanking when I was Pedaling. It got worse and worse the last few months. Monday I looked down on my right and I could see the bottom bracket cartridge outside retainer was coming loose. I took both the cranks off with the Park Tool. Then I used another Park tool to unscrew the retainer on the right side. This is what came out. The cartridge seems fine. Of course, the retainer on the other left side is still stuck in the bracket. Can I reuse this? What happened? Need my bike on the road as quickly as possible.
Thank you in Advance

If you can put it all back together you can. I'd just be a little worried that the threads in the BB shell were damaged. And that might be an issue for even a new BB cartridge. But perhaps it wasn't as loose as your description makes me imagine.

Examine your bike closer more often. If you wipe the grime off your bike every other ride or so, then you'll be seeing first hand much of the stuff you should be checking for issues starting to happen.

Was that original to the bike? I've never had a BB loosen up, with the exception of my first attempt at adjusting an old Ashtabula crank many many years ago.

Generally BB's are cheap. So depending on the amount of use you give your bike and how much longer you intend to keep it then you might consider putting in a new BB. However that decision might also be tempered by how much I desire to ride today right now.

By "the retainer on the other left side is still stuck in the bracket" do you mean that you did try to remove the LH cup but it didn't unthread? Or that you haven't yet tried to loosen it? Either way now is the time to get that cup out, before it becomes frozen in place in a manor that might do more damage when it has to be removed. If you did try to remove it what did you do? Was your tool well secured in the cup's splines? Did you have significant leverage?

BB cup loosening on fairly new bikes (and some old ones) is not common but does happen enough for better mechanics to look for this during any real servicing. Most of the time the OEM Bb is still in fine shape, just needs removal and reinstall with the proper thread assembly compound (grease/anti seize) and to the proper torque. The knocking you heard is most likely the BB and loose cup moving about and not the bearing's being worn. Now that the BB is removed it is easy to spin the axle and get a feel for the bearing condition.

By waiting so long to deal with a noise you did let whatever was going on to continue. These issues don't fix themselves and usually just get worse as the miles add up. Take care of it now and get that LH cup out then move forward with reinstall or replacement, bearing condition dependent. Andy

Personally, I'd replace it. They cost 15 dollars.

It all went back together today ,I pulled out the cup on the other side. Everything went back in solid and smooth, but I am replacing it like Rolla said. I had her broken down over the holidays to service the freewheel and the bracket looked okay
Funny noises can be hard to trace, on another bike i replaced the headset and bearings only to find out the seat post had a unique part that needed lubing..discovered it on this Forum.

^ Truth. I've eventually learned to just let them get loud enough that their source becomes obvious.
