Rear Derailleur adjustment but no barrel adjuster

Still having problems on rear derailler. Bike is a 2011 Rocky Mountain Element

https://www.sale-bikes.com/products/-...ke-2011--.html

there is the link to similar bike

I am able to shift into all my gears except the smallest cog or hardest gear
it just goes to second one and stays there. I have done everything. moved the H and L screws

there is no barrel adjuster on my rear derailler of this model, doesnt seem to be ever one was made to be there

is there any other way to fine tune this gear? derailleur

I have loosen and tighten the cable many times and when i am able to get it to go the to smallest cog, i cant get to the big cogs

i watched the park tool video as well so far no action
suggestions please

also what are my options to Barrel adjuster? should i turn the screen on actual shifter?

disconnect the cable completely.

the deralieur should now "relax" completely. turn your pedals, did it make it to the smallest cog??

if not the limit screws need to be adjusted. if that doesnt work then you possibly have a bent deraileur hanger/cage or bad deraileur return spring.

"when i am able to get it to go the to smallest cog, i cant get to the big cogs"

are you using a shifter for the same number of cogs or is it a 9 speed cassette and 8 speed shifter??

the other limiter screw allows your deraileur to move closer to the wheel, adjust that as well to the point where you can push your deraileur inward w/ your thumb but not hit your spokes.

with your cable not attached and your limiter screws adjusted properly, shift your rear lever into the highest gear (7,8,9)

connect your cable tautly, it does not need to be crazy tight.

work though your gears, still not right?

surprising there is no barrel adjuster on your der. how about on your shifter or the downtube.

if so then shift from 9 to 8 and pedal. adjust any barrel slowly while turning, it will start to click then it will jump into gear. setup complete.

if there are no barrel adjusters period, then Im out. sorry

It could also be the cable routing, it matters if the cable is going over the left or the right of the bolt.

You have a Shadow XT (Dyna-sys 10 speed) rear derailleur, read the instructions here https://techdocs.shimano.com/media/te...9830746412.pdf adjustment is made at the shifter.

Basic Information..

OP:
Is the bike exactly as specified in the link? Correct rear derailleur and shifters?

What is the history of the bike? Bought recently used, had since new, crashed, etc.

These are key pieces of information.

If it's as specified, your SLX shifters will have the barrel adjuster at the cable output. If you have an XT 10-speed rear derailleur, and if your derailleur mount isn't bent, you should have the full range of motion needed to go from the smallest to the largest cassette cog.

Do go back to the Shimano instructions and go through them in exact sequence.

There's probably a barrel at the shifter.
