Replacing the valve on a floor pump
 

I have to replace the valves on two floor pumps. Topeak has a replacement kit that includes a schraeder/presta dual head valve (see attachment) with a hose for ~US$16, but I'd like to replace just the valve.

Do you know of a presta-compatible valve that seats well on stems and can be fastened securely to hoses that are 3/8in or 7/16in in diameter?

Get the Topeak head. We use them daily in the shop and they last for two or three years. i have them on both of my home pumps.

If have to get a presta only, look at the Silca heads. They offer a couple and they are rebuildable.

I use the first one. They work great if you go back and forth between presta and schreader all the time. Every couple of years I need to replace a spring in the head(It is behind the pin that you see looking into the head, but the rebuild kit is only a couple of bucks. They get used, in summer, more than thirty times a day.
Props also to Silca pumps, I have one that has been in the store longer than I have and I have only had to service the leather piston, replace the foot valve and someone cracked the guage so I replaced that as well.

Is this the same Silca pump that gets so many favorable write-ups?

For $10 plus shipping I could get two for a bit more than the price of the Topeak replacement valve. That price makes me suspect that it's a knock off, though.

That is either a knockoff or someone screwed up the price.
The pumps I use are super pistas, they have a longer barrel and wooden handles, when I bought mine, they were over a hundred.

my computer would not load up your picture before, I prefer the single head from Topeak, not the one you have pictured.

They're genuine, and yes, they may have screwed up the price. I ordered 3 just to be on the safe side. According to www.qbike.com, everyone else sells them for at least $40. They're worth $10 just in replacement parts.

I replaced the head on my Zefal Husky with the head pictured in the original post in the thread. It works well, although I still use one of those thread-on presta adapters on my road bike, mainly because the valves on my road bike wheels don't extend far enough beyond the rim for the presta side of the head to get a good seal.

It looks like it is a Silca pump, but the next rung down (50cm) from the super pista (60cm). It looks like it's $40 everywhere else.

does anyone know if the silca pista hose would fit a late 90s specialized pump? i dumpstered one with the hose cut off.

You can find replacement hose and plastic hose clamps at a home depot or hardware store. Then just buy a brass silca head and you should be good to go.
