Another chainring to chain question
 

I have a 9 speed gearset, triple front, 130/74 bolt circle. I'm trying to order some new Sugino chainrings. Sugino says these are 8 speed chainrings. Will they work with a Shimano HG-93 9 speed chain?

Yes, to a degree. The chain will sit on the teeth fully, no engagement issues. But the thickness of the rings and where within this thickness are the teeth centered on is where some issues might be found. It is possible that the Sugino 8 speed rings will have the teeth slightly more inboard (or out board) then the originals did. If the front der and/or the ft shifter is sensitive to chain angle/rubbing/trimming possibilities then the chance of chain rub might be greater. If the shift lever was a friction or a micro adjust (Grip shift or Campy) then you're likely going to be fine as you can just trim/position the cage. But if you're running a Shimano index ft lever then some rub might not be able to be eliminated in most of the ring/cog combos. Andy.

continuing theme .. Might get a bit better shifting by paying more than the sugino price ,
and getting chainrings , machined ones... with the pins and ramps ..

7075 alloy of the pricier ones may last longer.. too..
