Repurpose or recycle chains?
I just replaced my chain.
Being a life long tech junkie and recycler, I've been wondering what I could use the old chain for.
I hate to see that beautifully crafted metal turn to rust.
Any suggestions?

Used chains are made into all sorts of jewelery and decorative items.
If you live in an area where theft is an issue, you can loop a chain around saddle rails and a seatstay as an anti-theft item (very common on messenger bikes in NYC --- cover with used handlebar tape so it doesn't scratch or rattle).
Years ago, I tensioned dead chains floor to ceiling and used them to support shelves.
That's for starters. It only takes a bit of creativeness to come up with hundreds of uses, so think about hat you need or can use if it were free anf have at it.

Bike chains are the same pitch as garage-door opener chain, so a few bike's worth of old chain could be pointlessly turned into a replacement chain for your opener.

Hal uses an old inner tube instead of used bar tape. An inner tube will not fall apart or come undone like bar tape

They can be wrapped around the partially deflated front tires on garden tractors equipped for snow removal. Get them as snug as possible then re-inflate the tires to hold them on and they help provide steering traction in heavy wet snow and on ice.
