Sugino BB Help

I'm getting ready to go from a Sugino XD triple to a double. I'm just loosing the granny gear. What size would you use for that crank? It's going on a steel frame bike if that makes any difference.

Are you just unbolting the granny chainring and keeping the rest of the triple crank or switching to a purpose built double crank completely? Suguino should recommend a suitable length bottom bracket for either.

All I have now is the crankset. There isn't a BB. All my JIS taper BB spindles are for vintage bikes. So, they're all around 122mm which is way too long.

Should be a simple Math and measuring ..

your new chainline is between the 2 chainrings rather than the center of the middle of 3.

Sheldon (speaking from the grave) says 113-118 for a triple: https://sheldonbrown.com/bbsize.html#sugino
For a double 107mm might work, depending on chainring size and dimple shape. 110mm will almost certainly work.

If I interpret you correctly, you currently have a Suguino triple crank and you are just going to unbolt the granny chainring. right? I wonder if the triple, even with the third ring removed, works with the same bb spindle as their purpose built double.

Any way to take it to a co-op or bike shop and try-fit a couple of different bb's to see what works?

My LBS just emailed me he has a 107 in stock, axle that is. I've got a lot of BB cups in the parts box. I'll have to give it a shot.
