Until it blows out under you, causing you to crash and fall, or if you're lucky just veer off to the side of the road until you coast to a stop.

hmm, i gotta say, i am ready to replace.

i've been riding on it for a week like this. it has been over rough roads and ran through piles of ice melt. i'm pretty impressed by these tires.

Funny, I Have 2 sets of those hard case tires. One set has been golden for a couple years of on and off use (I rotate through bikes like crazy) but the other pair I have haven't been very good. I came to one quick stop and the center strip ripped off for about 5 inches and something else happened to the other one.

I believe those tires, specifically in the 23mm width have wear issues due to dual compound. The center section is very pronounced and wears down very quickly and cuts loose. The model is discontinued and replaced with the AW3 which is much more durable, a step above Gatorskins.

this set has around 2000 miles on them. they're currently fully inflated(this is only the rear) and have been ridden in the last day.

these tires take an absolute beating and come back for more. i weigh around 200#, too. they were brand new when i got the bike in April of last year and even still have some of the little nipples hanging on. i do have a replacement tire on hand, so no worries!

That's pretty low miles for them to be that bad but, as noted, they are WAY beyond replacement time. I've had very good results with Vittoria Rubino Pro and Rubino Pro Slicks in 700-23 getting well over 4000 miles each from several rear tires. I'm lighter than you at about 150 but I still think those tires wore out awfully fast even at your weight.

i finished the year with 1944 miles on map my ride, but i had been hit by a car in august and laid up for a couple of months with no riding and i didn't log all of my miles, so 2000 on that bike is an estimate. i really haven't noticed any difference in the ride quality since that started, though. they hold pressure fine, and still ping rocks off when i'm riding. i wish they'd just make the entire tire out of what's underneath the rubber

I had some Corsas do that - it was like the vulcanizing of the rubber to the casing failed... you could flip up the tread all around the separation. The tires were worn but it wasn't like they were worn through to the casing... it was like they wore a little thin and then just let go.

I'd say, as a conservative estimate, that you should replace them about 500 miles ago. No rush.
