Mountain bike cassette with Shimano 600 ultegra?

I was planning on using this 7 speed cassette 11-28t with my Shimano 600 tricolor 7 spd group. Would this work or do I need road specific cassette?

It will work fine... anything over 28 teeth might exceed the capacity of the derailleur if it is a short cage.

I run an 11-28 with an 8 speed tri-colour / Ultegra group with a short cage.

It'll be fine. The "road" or "mountain" cassettes are in name only, they're all the same just different ratios. That RD should handle a 28T just fine but any more is pushing it and it might not shift into the largest cog.
