Sunrace/Shimano freehub body compatibility
I am currently working on my 15-20 yr old GT Palomar, rebuilding the drive train. Last year, the chain snapped and when I replaced it, it kept skipping on the rear cogs. I have replaced crankset, front & rear derailleurs. I went to replace the cassette and ordered a Shimano HG 50 7 speed 13-34T. However, when I went to replace it, I discovered the bike had a Sunrace HG-11 freehub body, that did not match the cassette. My question is this: Are the Sunrace and Shimano compatible? Can I just remove the Sunrace body and install the Shimano on the same freewheel hub? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I haven't heard of a Sun race FH.
Are you sure you aren't getting a Free Hub confused with a Free Wheel?
Freewheel or Cassette?

Most probably. I am learning as I go. The splines on the Sunrace body do not match the cassette. Does anyone know if I can just remove this and replace it with the shimano to fit my HG 50 K 7 speed 13-3T cassette?

You need to determine if it's a freewheel or a cassette. Totally different animals, not compatible.
Based on the age of the bike, it's most likely a freewheel. You'll need the appropriate freewheel removal tool to get it off, then replace it with another freewheel. The cassette you have won't fit on this hub.

Yea you just took the cogs off the freewheel body , without unscrewing it from the hub.
want a cassette? it's a whole different hub in the wheel .
or you buy a new freewheel with the cog tooth count range thats a wider difference .
(& a new chain at the same time)

Agreed, freewheel, not freehub. Totally different animals. Nothing is cross compatible between each other.
A freewheel is not a cassette and a cassette is not a freewheel. The terms aren't interchangeable either. All you did was remove the cogs off of a freewheel but the cogs aren't a cassette nor is the freewheel a cassette. When you say cassette, you are referring to something that has no relation to a freewheel at all so you shouldn't be using both terms referring to the same thing.
