Barnett's has various chapters available on their site that can be viewed or downloaded. That's the only place I know of.

I used to have a link to the whole manual sans a couple of chapters. It was on a German web site but the PDF's were in English. Unfortunately, I had a hard drive crash and lost the links and the PDF's. Haven't been able to find the site again but it came up fairly early on in a google search. At least when I first found it it did. Think it's been removed though. Sorry.

They used to be here, as well... I don't know if it's legal to distribute them, but if anybody has a copy or can tell me more, I'd appreciate a PM

You can get a hard copy at www.walmart.com for $73.95. That is less than Barnett himself was selling them at Interbike and the best price I have found. It also beats having to read from the computer or print out pages. Besides, Walmart needs the money to pay its 11 million dollar fine to the goverment.

Wally Mart should be paying that 11 mill to the people that they screwed instead.

For $73 I'd rather get "Zin and the art of _______ bike maintenance" and have enough cash left over to actually do some maintenance.

I'm looking forward to reading the terms of this settlement; when they settled their child labor charges recently, the government agreed to give them 15 days' notice before beginning future investigations. So we know they'll never get *caught* violating child labor laws again!

Walmart makes $11MM every nineteen minutes. Hardly a crippling fine.

Back on subject: I found my old copy of the Barnett's manual. Thanks to those who offered links to places to buy it, though!

I got the whole set off of Specialized.com years ago.

http://216.239.63.104/search?q=cache...client=firefox

I still have Chapters 1-32 & 37 on my hard drive. I'm missing 33-36 and 38+. I googled the titles and came up with this:

http://www.efd.lth.se/~f96be/
^^^ Just click this link ^^^

They used to be available here, at BikeForums, but now they're not. You can see a lot of old links pointing here:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...16&btnG=Search

That should help you out.

I have a full copy that I downed, its chapters 1 thru 38.

The PDFs were created on: Tuesday 23rd May 2000

If you right click the PDF file and select Properties, then select the PDF tab it should tell you when the actual file was created.

Any questions, PM me

Brendon

If anybody cares -- and I'm not taking a position on this -- when you offer to forward copies of Barnett's that were obtained without paying for them -- you're likely to be committing a crime.

Five years ago, I would have said "Who cares?" but: they're looking more and more closely at similar violations within the music world and the reason you can no longer get Barnett's off of this site is that the author asked BikeForums.net's "owners" to take it down. Copyright violations.

In other words, if you have one, and you're happy to share it, be aware that you're probably breaking the law. If that's ok with you, I would PM or e-mail people, but certainly wouldn't talk about it in a public forum.

Your call. Just a little info to help you decide.

Specialized offered these Barnett's guide for free a few years ago. No login. No Sign-up. No agreeing to any EULA or distribution rights. While it's true that Barnett's own's the copyrights to these, it's not a crime to give your copy to someone else, it's a crime to do something different with it. Like sell it, or claim it as your own. It's the same things as if I went to Specialized booth at a trade show, and they gave me some literature, now that I possess that literature, I free to do what I want with it. Consumer Copywrite law of first sale. It's different than if they gave you a DVD or a CD or something. In this case, they did give you an electronic file, giving it to a friend, in electronic file format, is legal in the US.

So I think your ok doing it

FYI - Right-Click on the PDFs and selecting Properties only tells you the dates those documents where created on your computer. My say 2004, so I know that's wrong. The only real way to find out is to open them in Acrobat and select File > Document Properties and then click the Description tab. Mine says "Created 12/2/1999 5:24:10am" from "Application: PageMaker 5.2"

I seem to have lost some font information. I wonder how they look on my mac. All the fonts seem to be missing on my PC>

I gotcha. You weren't really the intended audience for that last post of mine, and I didn't mean to offend anybody. People were just getting pretty cavalier about what they had. I thought it best that they knew that this was a topic that, perhaps, they should be a bit more closed-lipped about.

Best,
Neil

Wow where have you been for the last 30294234 years. Ever tried doing that with software? Of course it can't be illegal downloading music, games, applications off the net. Because all you're doing is getting a copy from someone else and it's an electronic file.

Just because something is in digital format doens't mean it's legal to distribute at will. It's ILLEGAL, so stop trying to justify distributing it.

So is it legal or illegal?
