Raleigh Summit - Rear Brakes issue

Raleigh Summit - Rear Brakes issue
Hi all,
New to the forum and just had a quick couple of questions.
I found a bike in the garden, it was green. apparently it has been there since '96! Anyways just to let you know that I have never ever attempted any kind of bike mainteance before, but I need a bike and I have lots of time on my hands at the moment. I will cut this long boring story short...
With the help of Google I have removed everything and now have the frame all stripped and rubbed down and am attempting to re fit the rear brakes. Thing is they are very odd and nobody from my local shops seem willing to help. The pad reads 'Weinmann 1780'. Hopefully there are some pictures below if i have done this right. So I am thinking of completely removing these brakes and fitting some modern cantilevers as I guess thats all the frame is designed for.
Finally my main question, apologies for waffling...
Can I replace them with any cantilevers that I can get my hands on or would they have to be a certain type?
After some googling i have found out that my bike is a Raleigh Summit with a K2 frame?! At this stage that is all I know. I would really appreciate any help that anyone can offer.

Yes, they're cantis, and the stud should be standard. So, assuming you can get the mounting bolts off, you should be able to replace with any cantis.
You won't know for certain until you remove the brake, and confirm that the studs are standard, an have a hole for the return spring's leg at the base.

Should be ok then? How do I check if the studs are standard?

those brakes look like they have been switched left to right
and i would be very surprised if they work properly like that
they should use standard smooth post canti pads
that are available at any lbs
