Shimano Altus to SRAM X3?

Hi, i'm thinking about going to a SRAM X3/4 rear derailleur, I currently have a Shimano Altus fitted on my bike, i'm not sure what size cage the altus has (I think it's a medium cage) will i have to add links to my chain as the cage on the SRAM X3/4 is longer? Thanks :thumb:

It won't work with your current shifters. SRAM derailleurs use a different pull ratio and therefore have to have SRAM shifters. Google "SRAM Shimano compatibility" for more detail.

The chain would be the least of your problems with this swap. Just replace with another Shimano part.

I know, i should've mentioned that i will be changing the shifters aswell

If you keep the same cassette and chainrings, the minimum chain length as determined by the big/big +1" method is unchanged. So there's no need to lengthen unless it's too short now.
