6500 Ultegra freehub swap

Is there a reason why you can't put the freehub body for FH6600 (or other 10-speed freehub body) on FH6500 rear hubs?

This is the 6500 tech doc: http://techdocs.shimano.com/media/te...9830611839.pdf

As you can see, part 16 (32U 9801) is the freewheel body unit, attached by the fixing bolt (359 0400).

Now...the 6600 tech doc: http://techdocs.shimano.com/media/te...9830728262.pdf

The freehweel body washer and body fixing bolt appear to be the same parts, despite the body fixing bolt part number being different (Y-359 04000). Similar enough to suggest slight catalog update from Shimano and interchangeability? The freehub body itself is (part 18, Y-3C9 98050) is the critical part.

Any advice appreciated.

No problemo.

AFAIK there are only two different kinds of cassette body interface for Shimano hubs with the ordinary M10 axle; male or female.

You have the original and far more common style.

The only things that might not match up to a replacement freehub body are the original drive side cones and seals. You will need the parts that match the new body.
