Retro DAWES morphs with Surly Crosscheck

I have a Surly Crosscheck which is a lovely bike but was bought in error as a bit small for me so I have stripped and sprayed my old Dawes GIRO steel framed bike and started stripping the Surly for the shimano 105. I have come stuck as I dont want to use the old headstock on the Dawes as it doesn't look good or work witht he current surly stem and bars. Without spending monbey as that makes me feel sick is there an option that won't hurt too much?

Regards

Bikes: '96 Litespeed Catalyst, '05 Litespeed Firenze, '06 Litespeed Tuscany, '20 Surly Midnight Special, All are 3x10. It is hilly around here!

I assume your Dawes has a 1" threaded headset and fork steerer and a quill stem. The Cross Check has a 1-1/8" threadless headset and fork steerer and a threadless stem. They are completely incompatible.

you can get a 1" quill-to-1 1/8 threadless adaptor

it fits into the top of your dawes fork like the old stem
and you can clamp the surly stem onto it

example
Dimension Steerer Adaptor 1" quill to 1-1/8" Threadless Black

but there is no way to fit the surly fork into the dawes frame
if the dawes orignially came with a threaded 1" fork

Wilfred is correct that the quill-to-threadless adapter will let you use the Surly bars and stem on your Dawes. I originally thought you wanted to use the Surly headset and steerer and that's not possible.
