Grease @ Sealed BB?

With less than 200 miles on a new Shimano cartridge BB, there is grease oozing at the axle from the NDS. DS looks normal. It was purchased and installed 2 weeks ago, NDS torque was to spec, drive side, estimated. It would take a couple of cotton swabs to wipe off this much grease. It feels like a bottom bracket when I turn the shaft by hand.
Any clues?

Wipe off the excess and ignore it. There is no maintenance you can do on these unless you have the relatively rare Dura Ace version of the Octalink.

Bearing makers generally overpack their bearings with grease. They figure the excess will be forced out in use and the baring will reach equilibrium keeping what's needed. Overpacking also ensures that some will weep under the seal's wiper edge to lubricate it and prevent dry running and wear.

So All is good, wipe the excess and ride.

BTW- the amount of overpack varies, so not all bearings weep the same. Don't fret over excess or under weepage.

I can definitely wipe and ride-especially now that my curiosity has been satisfied. Thank you.

My Miyata did the same thing when new. Wiped the Shimano sealed bearing BB off a couple of times on both sides, and that was all it took.
