new Rockshox forks availability
This sounds like a random question but does anyone have an idea why a lot of sites don't have the 2014 Rockshox forks in stock yet? I thought the industry in general tries to get ready for the month of April for a rush of orders in May. I don't get this.

lol, they have the black XC30 models and Universal Cycles have expensive shipping to Canada. Places like Niagaracycle, Smartbikeparts and xxcycle (France) don't have the XC30. I wish I could find the white or even silver models. (I have a chrome frame.)

tear it down and have that part repainted , if color is that important .
only this 'upside-down' one actually looks " New"

EDIT: Ha, I finally found one note on a site. They said stock expected late June 2014.

Xc32 is a far better fork, xc30 is a dart/Judy TT essentially. Worth paying the extra.

Would you happen to know if the frequency of maintenance required is the same for the XC32 as it is for the Recon Silver? (I read the Recon Silver doesn't have to be serviced as often as the cheaper models.)

The Rockshox 'XC' model forks and the '30 Gold' fork have non replaceable bushings in the lower leg assembly, when the non replaceable bushings wear in those forks you will need to buy a whole new lower leg assembly.
The Rockshox 'Recon' and their other better quality fork models have replaceable bushings in the lower leg assembly, when the replaceable bushings wear in those forks you just take them out and put in new bushings.
Bushings are a lot cheaper to buy then a new lower leg assembly but you might need to get someone to remove and replace the bushings if you don't have the tools for the job.
What wheel size?
How much travel?
What steering tube size?
What axle size?
Why only Rockshox, there's other brands that make good forks too.

Thanks, that's useful. But I was thinking about Rockshox because they're most often on web sites for under $200.
white or silver
26 inch wheels
100mm travel
100mm width
1-1/8" steering tube
canti bosses for V-brakes
Actually, I'm asking a bit ahead of time before I have the money to buy the fork. The reason behind the thread is in my fist post. I did not understand what was going on until I got a hint on the wiggle web site. They said delivery will be end of June 2014.

I think you'll have trouble finding a new fork that's white or silver and has v-brake bosses.
Is $200 your spending limit?

It's not necessarily a limit but if I find something way below retail price on sale then that's what I'd prefer.
When I have the money it's going to be fun for me to hunt down what I want. It's not the end of the world what I end up with because my bicycle parts were sitting in boxes for a long time. It's just that this year I figured I'd rather try to finish the project than let it drag longer. (I can't wait to try the gourgeous WD Cycle Elite frame I bought on eBay. The chrome-colored model I got looks awesome in person.)

Yeah, well there's the challenge for me. Especially since I want a regular steerer (non-tapered).

I'd rather just run 2.4" tire at low pressure than a 5-pound fork on my Mongoose.

If I can remember all the comments I read on disc brakes...
- someone said his disc brakes seized after not using them for several years
- someone posted a picture of his finger after working on his disc brakes
- someone said there was a 1mm clearance when re-installing the wheel (although there was a screwdriver solution for that)
and in my case, although weight is not a huge factor, it's still somewhat of a factor including the fact I like Shimano Deore V-brakes and levers which I already have. It would add cost since I already have the brakes, levers and cables. Believe it or not, I wanted to build this bike with Falcon friction shifters with the goal of having a "simple" bike. The only thing "complicated" about it would be the suspension forks but I wanted at least one bicycle with suspension forks that would be better than the ones I have on my $130 winter mountain bike.
My touring bike which is not complete yet will have Shimano Ultegra 8-speed bar-end shifters on friction mode with V-brakes as well and rigid forks.
EDIT: I can also add I read hydraulic brakes can be pretty "grabby".

I'm still wondering about Rockshox forks availability. They were difficult to find for a while then somewhat available and all-of-a-sudden, poof, some sites are out-of-stock again. (I found one site though saying more stock is coming in.)
If you can ignore the above off-topic posts, is there anyone familiar enough in the industry that has an idea what's going on with Rockshox forks availability? If someone from Rockshox reads this, I hope you have some available for x-mas. I usually get money gifts twice a year and hope more will be available when I shop this winter.

I'm not close enough to Rockshox to know why the lack of Canadien/UK availability of the forks you need but I have a wild guess.
Rockshox probably doesn't really wanna bother selling $200 forks with canti studs anymore. They probably make enough to fulfill OEM orders then sell the overruns through retail channels. They're probably hoping they don't ever have to make any more one of these days.
