Bought used bike and want to bring it up to speed
Can anyone send a link to an article with diagrams and/or a video that can take me through the basic tune-up procedure? I don't know the terminology so I need to see what's being discussed. I have just bought a used bike that seems to be in good condition but I want to clean it up and make any necessary adjustments to it without paying a lot of money for a bike shop to do it.

There are several good basic books on bike repair and maintenance and your library should have a couple for a start. Sheldon Brown's web site (sheldonbrown.com/harris) has many articles on bike terminology and components and Park tools web site ( parktool.com) has a great range of tutorials on various aspects of bike assembly and repair. Those should get you started and welcome to the wonderful world of bike technology.

If you Google bike parts diagram and click on the Images option you will see multiple diagrams that properly label the parts of a bike. You can then extend it by a search for a part - bicycle wheel diagram, hub diagram, etc.. In addition to the Sheldon Brown site www.parktool.com/blog has a diagram of a bike so that you can click on the item that interests you. Keep in mind that every working component interacts with others, so you need to be open to understanding how they work together. For example, proper brake adjustment requires true wheels, which require properly adjusted bearings.
