Head Set install
Hi all,
I need your help for instalation of the headset on the fork and frame.
I tryed to install the crown race first, than the lower bearing. Unfortunaly it seams the bearing doesn't fit over the crown race. I tryed to press it no sucess. please refer to the pictures
Is there any special procedure I may be missing?
Thank you for your help,
Luis

the third picture looks okay. can you adjust it properly?
if you don't think it has gone down all the way and don't want to fiddle around finding another one, i'd just take a little emery cloth to the race.
it might even seat some more if ridden for a while. of course you'd have to readjust the headset a few times.
but to answer your specific question. no, there is no special procedure you are missing, AFAIK. someone else will probably have something to say that may be more satisfying.

The first two pictures make me think you installed a 1" crown race on a 1-1/8" steerer. That gap is WAY too big.

Opps my old brain wook up.
I was changing the crown race with the upper compressing ring. lesson learned.
Thank you for the messages.

In all likelihood, this model cartridge bearing doesn't use a pressed on crown race.
In traditional cup/cone headsets the crown race is pressed on to ensure an absolutely zero movement fit. But cartridge bearings don't work this way. The crown race is part of the bearing, so all that's needed on the fork is a centering cone. The cone may be pressed on like a crown race, or it may be split, and work with a taper in the crown race (part of the bearing) to constrict following the same principle as on the upper bearing of threadless systems.
Usually parts are measured pretty close to leave a minimal gap between the fork and heat tube. If the gap is too large, it's possible the OP has the upper and lower centering cones reversed, or more likely (based on the photo) the lower cone was sized for a fork that lacked the enlarged seat area used for press fit crowns, and now is opened to a larger than designed diameter.
The problem is that some carbon forks still have the 30mm crowns needed for pressed on crown races, while others don't and require the split cone used with integrated designs, and sized for 28.8mm.
