Park PCS-9 hard to rotate.

I recently received a replacement for my Park PCS-9 (a piece had broken so the store swapped it with a new one). With the new one I'm noticing that it is difficult to rotate the bike in the stand after loosening the rear nut. It seems like the conical piece that goes into the frame of the stand doesn't disengage from the body of the stand to allow it to rotate easily. Instead the square piece that fits into the back of the cone comes out. Is there a recommended way to lubricate the outside of the cone to help it swivel when the nut is loose? Has anyone else had this happen?

I often need to force it loose by taking the jaw out completely and pushing it through the hole backwards or pushing something else through the hole to push the cone out of the frame.

Any suggestions?

Try a shot of silicone lube, either grease or spray. Odds are that regular oil won't hurt the plastic either, but I don't know that for sure.

Don't grease it heavily, just a thin film.

Thanks, that seems to have helped. It still gets stuck a bit if I've tightened it down, almost like the cone was just wedged in too far. I'll apply a bit more and see if it gets even better.

Mine did the same. I was concerned about galling between the two surfaces. A light coat of grease and its all good........

I was having the same problem with the PCS-10. I emailed ParkTools and they suggested sanding the black collar piece and/or use anti-seize. The sanding didn't work but the anti-seize fixed it immediately. I used ParkTools anti-seize but I would assume you could use any brand.

I just treat the stickiness like a quill stem. I whack the back side with the heel of my hand and it loosens right up. (Although on a stem I don't use my hand...) Andy
