Touring rack for Tern Verge P20 (asymmetrical eyelets/bosses!)

Hello!

It's so strange for Tern to have the top eyelets/bosses for the back rack brazed on asymmetrically on my P20! They are actually about 0.5 inches offset from each other. I'm looking for a heavy-duty touring back rack so will need a mounting system that allows for such customization. Any recommendations and experience to share?

Thanks!

Perhaps this is a defect, unless it is offset by design. If this is a new bike, and the asymmetry is a problem for you, I would consult the dealer regarding warranty repair/frame replacement. A couple of well-lit, clearly-focused photos would be helpful.

It's not a defect as it is also found in all other P20 bikes.

It's probably something to do with the folding design, but if they put them there then they may well sell a rack to fit or intend to sell one in the future.

We sell Tern bikes in the shop I work at. I'm not aware of the asymmetry that you refer to. Tern sell a rack designed for their 20" bikes, see here:
Traveller? Rack (Rear) | Tern Folding Bike and Folding Bicycle Accessories | Switzerland
It doesn't appear to be asymmetric.

Thanks for sharing Chris. I must tell my bike shop then. Maybe it's a batch problem, but then again Thorsten from ThorUSA said he is aware of the asymmetry and was told by Tern the reason for it but can't recall now. Anyway, he's recommended the Pletscher 20" Athlete 4B rack as it comes with customizable mounting.
