Rim Tape Application

Hi everyone,

I am putting on some new rim tape. Is there a certain direction to apply it.

With or against rolling direction?

Thanks.

Does not matter. Velox? Just line up the valve hole first. I like to overlap the tape a bit at the end before trimming it.

Just had to improvise with several layers of electrical tape, to be honest I think it works pretty well!

As a short term measure obviously.

I start at the valve and apply halfway around the rim. Cut the tape, then restart at the valve and apply halfway around the rim. This way I can ride forwards or backwards. YMMV.

Wind it in the same direction of your trailing spokes. If you apply it in line with the leading spokes it can cause stress on the rim and lead to cracking and failure.

FWIW: Electrical tape can be pretty stretchy and the glue slimy, stretchy and slimy enough to get pushed into the spoke holes by the high pressure in road tires and cause a failure.
