Wheelset advice
My Trek Pilot 1.2 currently has Conti 4000's on the original Bontrager SSR's. Four or five thousand miles, popped a spoke a couple years ago but they seem to still be going.
I've always wanted a cyclocross bike, for better riding on dirt roads, and for possible riding during spring/fall when the roads start getting iffy. Got a set of 35mm wide Maxxis tires a couple years ago. This month I got a set of what I think are low milage Shimano RH500's for cheap money.
What makes more sense: Conti's on which rim? From what I can tell, the Bontragers are heavier, and have higher miles, thus it might almost be an upgrade if I put the Conti's onto the RH500's. I'm not a competitive rider; but less weight on the hills is always appreciated. At the same time though, if it's mere grams of difference is it worth the effort to swap tires? And, are the RH500's a bit "tougher"? I'm not planning on hard off-road riding, but obviously I'm going to see worse terrain there.
I realize both are low end wheelsets, but they are basically free for me to use up.
