Strummed archer coaster brake cog on AW hub

Silly question and I doubt there is any difference but...is this cog compatible with a late 70s sturmey archer AW hub? 3 splines...cog teeth...I'm not seeing anything earth shatteringly different.

Hoping to lower gearing for the hills around here.

Thanks. The Raleigh Superbe you sent over some parts for is just about done with a few baubles and bolt-ons to add.

The majority of 3 or 1 hubs made from the 1920's to present take the same 1/8 three prong cog so you should be fine.

Now there are a few .. 3/32" thick 3 spline cogs ... very recently another type is being used as well.. a 9 spline..

S-A 8 speed has its own Cog spec. 20-23-25t.

The same 3-prong cog pattern fits all my Sturmey-Archer hubs, built from the early 1950s to the SunRace built hubs of the 2000s.

My S3X hub accepts both Surly pattern 9-spline cogs and Sturmey-Archer pattern 3-spline cogs.

the three spline cog design
is commonly used on most modern coaster and igh hubs
as well as the majority of older stuff

My S3X hub accepts both Surly pattern 9-spline cogs and Sturmey-Archer pattern 3-spline cogs.
But AFAIK Surly is a brand (not a MN factory) I dont believe QBP manufactures anything..
It's all Contracted out .. Taiwan the place where most bike stuff gets made.

I thought the 9 spline was Shimano from their BMX hubs ..

You change the driver in the Hub? I note the S3X Stock one has the spline tips Threaded ..

But I think the rounded 3 spline Is significantly different (13t minimum)

seems the 9 spline is smaller over all Takes a 12t cog

JDT You seem good at pictures of things ,, I can accept evidence .. to the contrary ..

You strum a guitar, you may pluck a bow string ,
but I've never thought about strumming the Archer.

No, it's all the same. The S3X driver has 9 channels milled into it; the Surly cog has 9 spines that fit into each of the channels. The Sturmey-Archer cogs have only three spines, so they fit into three of the nine available channels, but the overall diameter of the opening is the same as the Surly, and the same as the older Sturmey-Archer drivers. The biggest difference between the old Sturmey-Archer cogs and the new ones is that the new ones are flat and chromed, while the old ones are dished and black oxide coated. And yes, the S3X driver is also threaded, ostensibly to allow a single freewheel to be mounted, but it also allows a standard track cog to be mounted and an ISO bottom bracket lockring can secure it in place. Splined spacers are supplied with the S3X hub, and if one is installed between the track cog and the lockring, no torque can be transferred from the cog to the lockring, so there's no risk of loosening.

OK , I interpreted it ... saying the 3 spline AW3 cog fit, & I had a mis match total conflict in mind..

since the Original post asked about a coaster brake Cog ..
those, in the linked picture , are the Old UK 20's AW3 rounded 3 spline cogs .

You meant S3X.. whole different driver /spline type. (& topic drift ensued )

So ... Surly(QBP) contracted a Source so as to also inventory a 9 spline Shimano pattern cog

as well as sun-race sturmey-archer .. for the S3X..

Track hub lockrings are a smaller LH thread,
there, (S3X) a more common BB adjustable cup lockring, obviously, gets used ..

Hope OP was not thoroughly confused..
