every three years whether it needs it or not, cleaned the chain
been wanting to for more than a while but recent cleaning threads got me thinking. also going to a cool new biking spot next week and looking forward to racking up some miles.
of course chain cleaning turned into drive-train cleaning. then wheel cleaning. then bike cleaning. man the pulleys were gross. those had to be scraped first then tough sponged with Dawn.
tried one of those White Lighting plastic contraptions for the first time. wasn't impressed with the cleaning fluid. wound up using some Simple Green I had laying around on shop towels. then used the plastic machine again and then it seemed to help with chunks coming off and the liquid getting a little dirty. worked on the chain like that back and forth for a good 20 min. then broke out the Dawn original and more shop towels. I could tell quickly that the chain was livelier. spun it for a few seconds then let it air dry for an hour then lubed it with my White Lighting chain lube.
I couldn't find my bike cleaning brushes. like I said it's been three years since I cleaned a chain. sad.
lubed the other chains and adjusted their brakes.
