Fitting larger rear cassette and derailleur - SRAM Wi-Fli

My old road bike has SRAM Red 10 speed component set with 11-26T rear and compact crank. I need help getting over steep hills that stretch for several miles. I'd like to replace the rear with a 11-32T, which means I need a new cassette, derailleur and chain. I found that SRAM Red Wi-Fli supports this but its price is a bit steep.

I also mtn bike and have an extra KMC 10 chain and Shimano XT 32t cassette I could use. I found a lot of used but well condition XX derailleurs locally that are fraction of the cost of Red Wi-Fli. (cant find any used Reds) So I'm thinking of just using the XX derailleur.

I've searched a lot and I'm getting mixed results. Are SRAM road and mtn parts interchangeable?

The XX derailleur I'm looking at is 2012 and my Red shifters are 2011. Can anyone here confirm this will work?

Thanks!

I did some more searching and it seems the SRAM XO components are not compatible with SRAM road parts. However, the XX mtn bike components are compatible with SRAM road. Would appreciate it if someone had an exampe of this.

Sram also makes a FORCE Wi-Fli. Slightly heavier for a fraction of the price. They are designed for the 11-32 cassette.

SRAM road and MTB parts use different technnologies. The cable pull is matched with the geometry of the RD 's parallelogram. The older MTB groups (X3, X4) used "1:1" actuation, while the newer groups (X5, X7, X9, X0, XX) uses the improved version called "Exact Actuation" (EA). EA was later applied to their road groups.

So yes, the XX RD will be compatible with Red shifters.

As others have stated, the Force, Rival, or Apex WiFli RDs would be cheaper. I'd go with Apex.
