Old Raleigh Bike - 590 Wheel rebuild - Nipple info needed

    Hey guys.

I'm rebuilding the wheels on my 72 Raleigh Sports. Basically I'm just changing out the original steel rims and replacing them with new alloy rims. I'm keeping the original hubs and spokes.

However the nipples have developed a lot of rust and I'd like to replace them. Does anyone know what size/type spoke nipples I need to order if I plan on keeping the original spokes?

    Thanks.

Get new spokes... with a three speed you should also get spoke washers since modern spokes are thinner and these help the spoke heads seat and bed in to the narrower steel hub flanges.

You may be able to find some NOS Raleigh spokes so they would be good for the old hubs. Check the auction site. They are 276 mm long and I got a lot of 1000 a few years ago. They came with original NOS nipples as well. I have used them to build wheels using various rims (590 mm). For the rear AW hub, 40 hole 4x; 36 hole 3x. For the front, 32 hole Raleigh hub 3x; 36 hole generic high flange 3x; low flange 2x. A very versatile spoke length for the 590 mm rims.

And just to be certain, I need a spoke wrench/key that fits 0.127" (3.23mm) nipples, yes?
