New chainrings on my Dura Ace 7700 cranks

I'm looking to get some new chainrings. I have Dura Ace 7700 cranks. One chainring is the SG B-53 and the smaller is a 42 tooth. I'm thinking this may be the problem why I sometimes the shifting screws up and my chain annoying goes off the rings. What aftermarket chainrings can I use with my 7700 cranks? Is there a big difference b/w the Ultegra and DuraAce rings beside the weight? I appreciate your help.

I doubt that "mismatched" rings are the cause, probably just adjustment.

I agree. Although, I have read that having a small 42 tooth ring couple with a 53 tooth can cause some issues. The primary reason I want to change the rings is due to them being worn. Ready for some new ones.

If anything, I'd expect 53 and 42 to shift nicer since they're closer together in size. But you can't go wrong in getting a matched set for your new rings.

How about these? Universal Cycles -- Shimano FC-6500 Ultegra Double Chainrings 9spd

I thinking about getting some nicer ones. Surely the Ultegra's will do the trick no doubt. Heard anything about Praxis Works chainrings?

A 53/42 combination is common as is 53/39 and both can shift very well if the front derailleur is adjusted properly. Basically, Shimano's chainrings shift as well or better then any other make so there is no benefit to using an aftermarket set. As to nicer than Ultegra, what do you mean by "nicer"? More expensive? Lighter? Shift better? Costlier is certainly available but the other items are iffy or non-existant.

I've never known of any 7700 cranksets equipped with a 42t inner ring. A 39 inner ring is normal. The front derailleur is designed for the 53-39 set and it shifts great. Was yours originally equipped with the 42?

I doubt it. I bought the bike used. There are 7700 chainrings that come in different combos. The "A" sets come in 53t/39t and 53/42. The "B" sets 53/39.

Well the Dura Ace rings are nickel plated and supposedly more durable than the Ultegras. Who knows. Weight difference between the two is miniscule.

I have Vuelta chainrings on my MTB commuter; they offer rings in all kinds of sizes. They're a good product but not the most authentic looking replacement, though.
