Wireless bike computer install with disc brakes

Back with my 2008 Trek Portland and needing help with installing the Cateye Strada Double Wireless bike computer.

Problem - the disc brake cable runs along the top (right down the middle) of the chainstay where the sensor is supposed to be mounted. I cannot see a way to mount the sensor without it sitting on top of that cable.

Thoughts, tips, suggestions? If this product will not work, do you have a suggestion as to a reasonably priced ($75 ballpark) that is wireless and includes cadence?

Again, thanks in advance for your feedback....

Jon

Fork up front.. disc on the left, sensor on the right . why the problem? you dont really need a cadence input.

I bought the unit specifically for the cadence. I like using the cadence function rather than speed to monitor my effort-level.

fietsbob, I see you're on the OR coast...I'm in Beaverton.

Have a feeling you are going to have difficulty if getting a cheap solution to what you want, looking at photos of the Portland, they changed the spec in later years with the cable routing, to run below the NDS chainstay, but yours runs above, which is where almost all cadence sensors sit.

A suggestion would be to get a Garmin 500/510 and run their (Garmin) latest crank mounted cadence sensor, although this would be well above the budget given. Wahoo also do a crank mounted, this connect via Iphone.

I'm not sure how your sensor mounts, but this is how I mounted my garmin sensor with a similar cable setup.

Having looked at images of the 2008 Portland, the rear disc isn't a full length outer cable routeing, like the Vaya in your photo shows. The Portland has an exposed inner at the point where your GSC 10 is mounted, so would clamp the inner cable if mounted there. See post #3416 to see how the cable is routed on the 2008 Portland https://www.bikeforums.net/commuting/...-pics-137.html

Oh, gotcha. They can also be mounted on the bottom of the other chainstay, but I imagine the derailleur cable probably runs through there like it does on my vaya. Bummer.

slide de a piece of housing over it at that point and proceed from there?

Yep, same routing Privacy information ? Trek Bicycle cadence sensor in general seem to be designed to fit on top of the NDS chain stay, and the design of the GSC 10 is very similar to the Cateye Stada sensor. Good luck to #JMak00 in searching for any other solutions.

Meaning unclip the brake cable from the housing, pull it back near the cranks, slide thru new housing, and re-connect to the brake housing? Hmmm....sounds like a decent work-around.

gearhead, i'll check the other chainstay, but I think it's open and could be a good place to mount. Edit - no-go here, shifter cable runs under that chainstay plus the shape of the thing makes it impossible to mount anywhere except leftside.

Solved this one...like gearhead's bike, my rear disc brake cable runs along the top of the non-drive chainstay. But my cable is exposed for about 6 inches across there. I pulled the cable off the brake, placed some new housing, reinstalled cable, installed sensor, adjusted brakes and I am money. Thanks, cderalow for the suggestion!
