Cheapo suspension fork cap missing - ideas for replacements?

On many cheap suspension forks, there's supposed to be a plastic cap at the top of each stanchion. These often get lost, which looks ugly and lets the insides get all nasty.

LBS raids on replacement caps have proven unsuccessful. Anyone have suggestions on covering it?

I don't want to be a hillbilly and just duct/electrical tape over it.

I've heard hilarious ideas like slamming a rubber ball in there, but I want something that looks more discreet and professional to the people who will be riding these bikes.

I guess some people use cork of the right size, but I don't don't drink, don't know any winos, and don't know where to shop to find just simple corks of the right size.

Anyone successfully use plastic bar ends (road? mountain?) shimmed with electrical tape?

Any other ideas or suggestions?

Hardware, home stores and, particularly, kitchen/restaurant supply shops sell a variety of corks and rubber stoppers.
