FD binding between cage and big cog

Ultegra 6700 FD, Ultegra 6603 triple (53T-30T), Ultegra 6800 BB.[LIST=1][*]Shift from 30T to 43T works fine[*]Shift from 43T to 53T pinches the chain between the inner edge of the cage and the large sprocket.[*]Everything was working before I changed the BB. So the FD and crank and chain have all worked well in the past. [*]The distance from pedal to frame is equal on both sides. [*]When I set it up (which I've done many times in the past), I pulled out the Shimano instruction sheet just to make sure I was doing everything right.
  • Chain on 34T rear cog and small front ring
  • Align so cage is absolutely parallel to big ring
  • Align cage height to one-penny thickness above outer teeth
  • Adjust so inner cage just clears the chain (3x5 card)
  • Adjust cable

I'd first try the common ft der position options. Raising the der/cage, changing the cable tension, changing the der/cage rotation wrt the rings. Andy.

"Everything was working before I changed the BB" Well, I would try to see if there is anything different about the new BB or its installation which may cause you to need to set it up differently; if what has worked in the past doesn't work now you may need to change your approach. You mention that the pedal to frame distance is the same now; was it before? Did your old BB have a different offset than the new one or is the crank seated differently? Rotation around the seat-tube? 1/2 degree..

losing the STI FD, friction, will let you trim the front cage back after each shift .. other than that you have is cable adjustment.

given the shift is a ka-thunk to a spot in the swing and Shimano relies on the cage shapes to clear the chain.. from there

On an older derailleur check to make sure there is not a ridge on the inside of the inner cage that can restrain the chain from easily rising up to the large chainring. Yes, I know the front derailleur worked before, but there is no shifting issue I am aware of that would be affected by BB change.

You have the wrong crank and derailleur match up. You need a smaller middle ring to use the Ultegra FD. Grab a 105 FD or change your middle ring.

I assume your FD is a 6703-triple (not 6700 for double which is what you typed). Your chain rings are 53-43-30? Unless I misread your post...

Your post is a little hard to follow. The original 6603 chainrings should be 52-39-30. From your description it sounds as if the derailleur is too low, but in the picture it appears to be too high. It sounds like you set the low limit screw correctly but you didn't say how you set the high limit screw.
I suggest that you go to parktool.com, find the instructions for adjusting a front derailleur and follow them completely and in the correct sequence.

This is rare but does happen to well used front derailleurs.

With constant use, the chain wears the cage plate where it rubs during shifts, but that wear zone ends at the point that the chain completes the shift. So eventually you get a bit of an overhang and as the chain rises during the upshift, it gets trapped under that overhang.

Usually this is not repairable, nor is there a good way co work around it. You might try raising the FD a bit to see if the edge can be raised high enough to be out of the way, but it'll probably be so high that FD response suffers. Or you can remove the FD and file the lip flush with the worn area below, and this might buy some time.

So you might get it better for a while, but at some point, now or very soon, you'll have to accept the fact that the FD is worn out and needs to be retired.
