Shimano Sante 7 speed freewheel, SIS compatible?

Hi, basic question...

I'd like to combine a 7-speed Shimano Sante 13-24 freewheel with Shimano Deore SIS rear derailleur and Shimano non-series 7-speed ST-EF65 indexed shifters.

Is the 7-speed Shimano Sante 13-24 freewheel SIS indexed shifter compatible?

Sante was Shimano's late 1980s "fashion" group, featuring sleeker looks and higher cost than their 600 group. It came years after SIS was introduced with the redesigned Dura Ace in 1984, which completely changed the face of the bicycle component world. Before then, Shimano was though of as obsessed with technological innovation, but their quality couldn't compare with Campy. After that, they were taken seriously, including by top level race teams. All Shimano groups introduced for enthusiast-level bikes after 1984 had indexing, including Sante.

Thank you for the replies. I wasn't sure if the freewheels were also SIS.

I would expect (but could easily be wrong) that any of Shimano's freewheels/cassettes made after 1984 would have been made to the same spacing as one of their index systems, or else they'd threaten the adoption of their indexed systems.

Your surmise is correct. Shimano made 6 and 7-speed index-compatible freewheels in Santé, 600EX, and Dura-Ace versions.
