Any known issues with Ultegra 6800 freehubs?

Got a guy wants to sell Ultegra 6800 wheelset for $80. Only problem is freehub "makes a noise when I spin it". I realize that it would be ridiculous to try and diagnose it with this little info; so what I'm asking is if there are any known issues with Ultegra 6800 freehubs. Thank you.

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

Shimano uses the identical freehub module in a variety of their hubs. So I strongly doubt that there would or could be a problem specific to a single model hub. It could be that the freehub is noisy because of internal rust or dirt, but these are tough units that usually respond well to a simple flushing with little or no disassembly.

BTW- you can get a "worst case" idea of the value by searching the cost of a replacement freehub body, or cannibalizing one off a trashed wheel. If it were me, I'd base the decision on the overall condition, especially that of the rim and spokes rather than the freehub.

Hmmm, wasn't the 6800 wheel set one of the ones that took only Shimano 10-speed cassettes because it used an aluminum freehub body with taller splines than the other 8/9/10-speed hubs.

Thanks, FB. I offered the guy $20. My gut feeling is that the wheels are stolen, although it's nothing concrete--just an overall impression based on a few emails.

I figure with the $20 offer I win either way. If he takes it I probably got a bargain. If he refuses it I don't have to screw around riding the bus for an hour and trying to carry 2 wheels back on the bus.

The ultegra 6800 is supposed to be 11-speed. Which means it's current, which is why I can't understand why the freehub is screwed up already. They are, after all, quite robust.

I've had a set of wheels with 6600 hubs and the rear "makes a noise" much of the time, but only under load. I've repacked the bearings, bought a Freehub Buddy to lube it, and even replaced the freehub. The noise always comes back.

No, that is the Dura-Ace 7800.

Yeah, but there was also an Ultegra prebuilt wheel set that used the same tall-spline freehub body. It must have been a 67XX series. I forgot the 68XX was 11-speed.

Freehub Buddy looks like a useful tool that I should get--only problem is they don't make them any more since Mr. Morningstar accidentally shotgunned himself with one of his own booby-traps. Anybody have one they want to sell?
