Chain ring bolt

I am not sure if there are any proprietary specs when it comes to chainring bolts. Is it at all possible to use a double hex chainring bolt—like those on sram setups—on a shimano FSA crankset?

I’m just fed up with this tool.

I never worried about that. Chainring bolts aren't all the same length, however. As long as the length is right, I think that you're good.

I hate them too. One of these days I'll spring for the VAR tool. ~$80.

Wish my calipers worked right about now.

Var makes some great tools. Bit steep though $. Going to cross my fingers for a double allen setup… if not I’m getting that!

i have to sympathize with you as regards that tool. it was given one to me by my LBS, and i was happy to have it at the time. now, i'm wondering if it was some sort of sick joke. ya know?

If the nut side sticks well enough, to not rotate with the front side , Sometimes I dont even need that little spanner.

Though My 80s Shimano one, with the 2 pin Dust cap removal tool on the opposite end, seems to work Fine, still ..

A ruler would be sufficient - it's not a precision measurement.
