Bash Guard. Off set vs no off set

This will be on a Fuji 29er mtb.

How do I know if I want off set or not. It's a FSA Moto crank if that matters. Thanks

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

I'm not sure what you;re asking, but maybe it's about how the bashguard will mount.

There are two basic types. some mount INSTEAD of the outer chainring, and others mount OUTSIDE of the outer ring, leaving the original gearing intact.

I hope that helps, but maybe if you clarify the issue, someone else might answer it better.

Off set no spacers needed .. flat ? spacers needed [unless its replacing an Outer chainring, then the crank arm spider IS the spacer. ]

Since im replacing the outer chainring, either one will work. Is that correct.9

Your gap between the chain and the inside face of the Bash guard will , of course, be greater if you have an offset to the outside built into the guard.

Is there pros or cons on which I choose. Will the smaller gap be more likely to get gunked up.

Which would you recommend. I'm actually walking out the door to a bike swap meet. Hoping to find something there.

a flat one you can add spacers if you wish .. I assume a X1 front and a cassette rear, the chain may touch the guard in the highest gear.

less of an issue if the diameter is nearly the same as the chain on the chainring..

I have dished guards on my triples,[ & the Mountain drive (stock)] I used a flat one with my wide step double sitting on the outer ring position
& the Rohloff IGH builds..

None are the really thick, log crawler, Off road Bash guards..

If you get a worn outer chainring and take the teet off it may be fine.. but IDK the bash level you have in Mind.

I want a race face. I will be running 2x9.

I just got back from the bike swap meet. There wasn't one in the building.

I read, as a Business, Race Face was recently bought out of bankruptcy receivership . so the company is not healthy.

maybe the new owners will do better ,

(typical, is of course buying the Brand, sending the work overseas where Labor and Overhead are Less)
