This was one of my fastest rides ever, especially for over 20 miles. I had not ridden in a little over a week and then had a lighter ride yesterday with my wife. I could tell I was feeling pretty good so I tried to push a bit harder still.
To add to the challenge of the ride, I chose to add two legs to the ride that included steep hills. I think I did pretty well at maintaining speed even going up those hills.

I give my YouTube vlogs the main title of "Fitness Over 50." It is my goal to build a community of like minded riders whose purpose is to get and stay active and fit into their senior years. At 59, I see myself as just entering those years. I am not as fit as I would like to be, but neither am I trying to become a superstar athlete. I am becoming more fit all the time with:
-Regular cycling,
-Frequent resistance training and
-Ketogenic/Intermittent Fast eating
are the main elements to my fitness plan.

It's still very nice outside but I can tell that fall is coming soon.
My ride this morning was 20.19 miles. My quest for fitness over 50 is a progress. I am better than I was a year ago and I plan to be better than I am in a year. Sticking with it. That is the key.

My wife and I planned a ride on the Foothills Trail from South Prairie to Puyallup. It turned out that the Puyallup end of the trail was closed due to some construction on electric lines.
We opted instead to ride from Orting to South Prairie and return.

This ride averaged 14.9 mph. That beats my 14.7 mph average from a couple of days ago and is, to my recollection, my fastest ride ever - again.
I will say that riding fast is not, nor ever has been, my goal. Neither really is losing weight. Although those things are happening, my goal is to enjoy the ride and to be consistent. The rest will come on its own good time.

I broke my fastest average mph again today with a 22.40 miles ride at 15.1 mph. The weather is contributing I think. It is very nice but it is not extremely hot.
Planning a metric century ride (62 miles) for August 31. Ending the summer with a milestone ride.

Today was a planned lighter ride. I stopped for coffee with a friend in the middle of the ride. Did 12.49 miles and averaged about 13 mph.

I have been telling everyone I wanted to end the summer break with a metric century. Last year I did 100 miles the end of August. I chose the metric century because I had never done one before.
This was a perfect day for it. It never got too hot and the breeze was not terrible. Anita joined me for the last few miles.

Got a new toy to add to my fitness over 50 efforts. It's a tractor tire!
Seems like a manly sort of thing to pick up a tractor tire, carry it around flip it over and beat on it with a sledge hammer. :-)

There is a forest fire not far away, about 70 miles I would guess. Some communities on the slopes of Mt Rainier are being evacuated. We are experiencing pretty significant smoke here as well as falling ash. It was coming down hard enough that I had to be careful to breathe through my nose so as to filter it from my lungs.
Rode 22.46 miles this morning. Very nice ride.

Smoke still fills the air as fires rage throughout the Pacific Northwest. I chose a shorter 16.19 miles ride this morning to reduce my exposure to that smokey air. My wife and I went out to dinner last night to celebrate our 37 years married today.

I rode 16.68 miles today. The smoke is evident. The air is discolored. I don't think I can smell it any more but that is probably because I am so used to it.
My prayers go out to all those suffering through floods in in Southeast and fires throughout the Northwest.

I was worn out before I started my tractor tire workout today. I think it is the smoke in the air. It seems to be draining me of energy throughout the day. Burning eyes and lungs seem like they would be standard with this. I am just guessing that fatigue might be included.
Still, I did a 9 minute workout after riding my bicycle 16.68 miles.

My horse, Jewell, got new shoes this morning. The process takes a bit over an hour so I had to cut my ride a bit short today. Down to 12.22 miles.
The air is a bit better today. There was a little wind and I understand it is raining in some parts of the Northwest now. The forest fire fighters will be happy about that.

I've had a full schedule lately so cycling hasn't been possible since later last week. This ride was 12.77 miles with an average speed of 14.9 mph. Weather is sure cooling down!

This 12 minute tractor tire workout finished off my workout after a one hour, 12.77 mile bicycle ride.
The tractor tire is a lot of fun to use as a training tool. It's unique and challenging. Best of all, it was free!

Today's ride was 14.79 miles. It included a trip through the Spanaway Lake path. I thought I was going to average 15 mph but I somehow choked on that toward the end. The average mph improved when I began using autopause with MapMyRide but it isn't perfect. I suspect that the reduced mph average is due to the autopause not functioning at one of the intersections I had to negotiate toward the end of the ride.

This was a slightly shorter ride today as I am battling a cold. I have cut back a little bit on the time of my rides so I have time to incorporate other exercises into my routine - right now that is a tractor tire workout. When fall and winter rains begin some of that will be my Weider Gym.
It was 40 degrees today as I started my ride but it warmed up nicely as the ride progressed.

We've had the first rain of the fall season. I am sure it is the first of many. I rode 12.48 miles today. Had to remind myself how to use some of my rain gear. It wasn't bad today though. Most of the rain happened yesterday with just a spit today.

No cycling today - it was raining too hard. I chose to use that as an excuse to get in some weight training.

This is my first workout on my Weider Pro 3200 Home Gym since April. I focused almost all of my energies on cycling while the weather was dry. Now that fall is here I plan to work out on the Weider Gym at least once per week and perhaps more in the rainiest weeks.

The tractor tire was fairly full of water. That made it heavier which would not have been as much a problem except it sloshed around while I tried to work. Dead lifts were pretty much impossible.

My stomach muscles were feeling it since I began doing sit ups in the tire.

I put down a tarp to try to make a drier work surface. I think I have a better idea. I will get a 3/4 inch rubber mat from the farm store. That will make a good work surface.

I summarized this 64 minutes, 14.54 mile ride with a recording of every corner I negotiated in the ride.

Hope you enjoy.
