Check out my blog as i Bike across the country!

get to know me and follow me on my journey biking across the country to raise money and awareness for affordable housing here! I'll be uploading videos and pictures and lots of great stories about my trip!!! Ask me questions or just words of encouragement on my blog. I could really use your support and of course any donations are very much appreciated as well! (If you're a little low on good karma it can't hurt right!?).
I truly believe that it is never wrong to help someone, even if it doesn't change the world, it changes you and the lives of the people you have helped.

    Definitely check it out!

You know, if you hadn't just opened this account this month and some of us had a better feel of who you are, I might be inclined to help. But I smell a scam. And if it isn't a scam, next time be better prepared. Raise the dough first.

I definitely can understand where you are coming from. This is why I have been doing my best to update my blog and make that accessible to everyone. I have some videos posted there so you can get to know me better. I thought that this community might be interested in what I am doing and to hear about the trip as it develops. Online communities are a new thing to me but I am really nervous about this trip and as I begin training I could certainly use the advise provided here about what gear to buy for the trip and how to go about training for something like this. But again, I do understand your concern. Hopefully I can build up my credibility here! If you have any advise about how to go about doing that please let me know.

Absolutely! Bike and build actually organizes 8 cross country trips.
Mine, SC2SC, will be departing from Charleston, SC on May 24. We will travel through Ga, AL, MS, AR, OK TX, NM, CO, UT, ID, OR, and finally arrive in Santa Cruz, Ca on August 12th.
We will probably be averaging about 70 or so miles per day of riding and the total mileage is 4109mi. Our trip includes 17 days of volunteering at build sites and a total of three days off. In addition we will spend time in the evenings giving presentations to communities about the affordable housing cause as well as bike safety and maintenance. I couldn't figure out how to upload the image of the route but it can be found on this website here. http://www.bikeandbuild.org/cms/content/view/110/277/

Your trek through CO, UT, ID, OR, and the last leg to Santa Cruz in CA will prove to be challenging on the legs... particularly ending in those states.,, unless you've found the ideal route that minimized elevation gain. It's not like riding in Florida.

It looks to me you're rid9ing around the Appalachains (sp?). I always wanted to do this but I'm pretty much cemented in my career now and don't have that much time to take off. Sounds like fun.

I'm really excited about it. I think we'll be riding around the very lower part of the Appalachians not sure how much elevation we will be doing there. Last year I spend the fall and spring riding in hills of Hanover, NH and Vermont. Over the summers I ride around in Hilton Head island, where the biggest hill is the bridge that takes you on and off the island. Very different kinds of riding. But even so, i'm sure I cannot comprehend what I am about to do until it happens. However, I feel like if I don't do this this summer it will never happen and I won't get another chance like this.

I want to apologize again for the way I presented myself on this forum. I feel so embarrassed. I should not have even mentioned the money. I just didn't know if anyone would want to be involved. I can raise the money through fundraisers and events. But I came here mostly for the support. You guys have a lot more experience with riding than I do. And I am hoping that some of you might enjoy following me on this journey through my posts and pictures and videos. Again.. I am so sorry

Nah you're fine. It's good you did some hill riding. I think you'll be fine over here because it sounds like you are taking the Oregon Trail and cutting down into CA before you get to the Cascades. I have been to Hanover and it's no Rockies but it is respectable. If I were riding West to East, I'd do something similar. That is to say, go diagonal from SC/FL to OR and then south before you hit the Cascades. There's quite a bit of climbing still but nothing compared to any other routes unless you go way south through the desert of NM/AZ.

No, I havent been riding all over. But I have driven a LOT of places including parts of the Midwest. I feel safe to say that most of the Midwest and South are fairly flat.
