Flip flop wheel.

Anyone ride with a rear flip flop wheel? I have one on my fixie but a keep it on the fixed side. I'm wondering what a fixie is like on a bmx? What would be a decent one to buy?

Flip flop hubs on BMX are not meant to run a fixed cog on one side. The smaller side is meant for a different freewheel so you can flip the wheel around and change your gearing in between motos when racing

You buy the flip flop wheel, then you buy two freewheels of your choice with different cogs (9 and 16?) or what is the normal set up? What is a reasonably priced flip flop wheel to buy for this set up?
Thanks in advance.

do your own searching.

9 is a special hub you wont find a flip flop then.

a flip flop bmx hub will allow you do use 16+ freewheels on one side (larger, English threads) and 15 and smaller on the other (metric threads). a few companies make 13t freewheels that will fit the smaller side. DK made a 12t freewheel for a while but it quickly earned a reputation for exploding, so they stopped making it.

if you want a gear ratio with a rear cog smaller than 13t, you need a different kind of hub.

riding a BMX bike fixed has two problems- the threads on a BMX hub are only for a freewheel. there is no way to put a proper lock ring on a bmx hub. you could put a bottom bracket lock ring over a track cog on it but that is what is known as a "suicide hub." if you insist on this silly kludge, you will quickly learn why people call it that!

the other problem would be that bmx hub spacing is 110mm, while track hubs are 120mm. if you somehow cram a 120mm hub into a bmx frame, something has got to give.

dang, you could almost ride fixed with a trial hub, but most of those have 116mm spacing.

the only other way I could think to do it would be to modify a coaster brake hub and weld the drover to the hub shell.
