What is this - Old School BMX pics?
Yes, I neighbor of mine dug up this BMX from the 80s. It is called "Blue Max". It has a Mongoose 1 Piece Crank, Alloy GT Wheels with Suzue hubs, Aero Viscount Seat, GT STEM, Dia Compre Nimpro brakes and levers with like a stay on mechanism. Mushroom Bearing cover on the B.B. This really is a cool bike. But is it a GT or Mongoose or something else? Please help in any way!!!

It was made by Mongoose for sale at Military bases. I have an older verion with the old stlye frame gusset, it's got a star instead of a hole. I got it from a friend who's dad was in the Air Force. Yours is nicer and looks like it's based upon the Mongoose Expert. I tried the link on the post and it didn't come up so, I hope this helps. If I'm wrong about yours please post a correction. I don't mind being informed/corrected if wrong. Being right is a good thing. Keeping BMX History in order.

depends- a Blue Max fan might give you $100, someone like me might offer like $50 just because a) its pretty rusted and would need a LOT of work b) a lot of parts will need to be replaced.
If you really want to see what its worth, throw it on eBay. Every Vintage guy out there is on and will see it.

whats the sense of bashing him?
Blue Max WAS made by BMXProducts Inc, which also made Mongoose.
They are basically the same bikes. Same geometry, same parts. Different decals.

He sold the rights to the name, along with the company. I think I read that Stu Thomsen is a cop now. Someone should start a thread about the old school BMX racers. Not me, I'm too lazy to start a new thread these days.

Stu is a cop in California
Haro is still working as a designer for his company- I think its called Haro Designs.
Greg Hill has just resurrected GHP and is doing a limited run of frames, forks and bars for 2005
Eric Rupe is still racing. I will have the honor of meeting him this weekend in Rockford, IL where we will have him see the Rupe replica I built. It will be super cool.
Scot Brethiupt is back with the compnay he sold, SE Racing. Look for him representing at nationals and shows.
Harry Leary is still around
Eddy King is selling Real Estate in CA
Toby Henderson will be at Rockford this weekend, as will Bob Osborn, publisher of the original BMX ACTION.
Perry Kramer (mr. PK Ripper himself) is also posting on the vintage sites and is still around.
Mike Buff works for Wonder Bread as a manager.
RL Osborn owns (owned?) a carpet cleaning business and is building choppers.
Check out the vintage sites- www.vintagebmx.com and www.os-bmx.com - besides seeing great bikes and awesome memories, you will see a lot of old timers posting there.
thats all I can think of.....I will post a pic or two next week of some of the old timers I meet this weekend.

Yeah those old BMX are really cool. I had an old school Schwinn with Skyways back in the day. So fun but so heavy!
